Taking the 'middleman' out of charity
Wanting to 'make a difference', and help orphans in Africa to help themselves?
But are hesitant of making a donation or sponsorship because so much of your funds go instead to pay for large salaries and 'administration' costs within most charity organizations?
OrphanagesMalawi.org is an attempt to change this, by presenting a number of orphan organizations in Malawi, Africa whereby 100% of any and all donations go directly to the benefit of the children.
This is achieved in two ways. One; the orphan and child organizations featured on this website are run by people - often Europeans who started out as visiting volunteers - who choose not to take a wage/salary, instead living a simple life (Malawi-style), thereby substantially reducing their organizations running costs. And two, while visiting Malawi we created a Direct To The Kids system, whereby you can personally sponsor (choose, buy, and donate) any one of a list of much-needed items, and have it delivered to the relevant orphanage within the week.
Direct To The Kids consists of 4 easy steps -
Step 1; Select a needed item from the Direct To The Kids list on either the Tilinanu Orphanage or Jacaranda School For Orphans feature pages.
Step 2; OrphanagesMalawi.org then co-ordinate the purchase of that item from the relevant local supplier in Malawi (from whom we have negotiated a discount, to make every dollar/euro go further).
Step 3; Upon confirmation from us, you send your donation/funds direct to the supplier (each is a reputable business, we supply full bank and contact details), and the item is immediately delivered to the relevant orphanage/organization.
Step 4; The orphanage photographs the item's delivery, and sends this to you (via OrphanagesMalawi.org) along with a scanned copy of the receipt....plus a 'Big Thank You' letter!
A Note On Authenticity
OrphanagesMalawi.org acts as a facilitator-only, to ensure your dollar/euro/donation is maximised. We handle no money, and operate this website free-of-charge, solely as our small contribution to the children and orphans of Malawi. Our aim is simple - to effect efficient charity. For more detail, go to About Us.
Or You Can Donate Cash Direct....
....to each orphanage (not us), to feed a child (from US$10 a month) or help meet overall running costs. Each organization has it's own professional website, which you can access by clicking the relevant links from their feature pages here.
All of the featured organizations also offer/welcome free volunteering, i.e. they don't charge a fee or weekly 'rate' should you want to volunteer there. Go to Volunteering for advice on do:s and don:ts, accommodation, etc.
Please, without further ado, check out these truly inspiring childrens charities....Tilinanu Orphanage (in Lilongwe, central Malawi, largest city and the country's capital) and Jacaranda School For Orphans (in Blantyre, southern Malawi, second-largest city and the country's commercial centre) for donations of items or volunteering; and Butterfly-Space (in Nkata Bay, on the shores of Lake Malawi, northern Malawi) for a wide range of fantastic volunteering options. Either way, you'll be giving a child in poverty a direct helping hand!
Traveling To Africa?
See the Big Five -
And Score a High Five!
Touring through Africa is a joy, the sights unique - a blend
of raw scenery and majestic animals. However, hidden-away (particularly in the cities) there is much human tragedy,
in the form of HIV Aids, malaria, and hunger. Inevitably, as a direct result, many children have been left without parents.
Spotting the 'Big Five' (lion, wilder-beast, leopard, elephant, hippopotamus) while in Africa is usually the first 'must do'. Yet
why not also throw into your luggage your old laptop,
or some children books - and drop them into one
of the orphanages featured on this website?
They need your help. Certainly, seeing the joy on the faces
of African orphans, as they 'High Five' you in appreciation,
could well-be the highlight of your whole trip!
